Retirees: This article on pensions contains some hard truths, but it does in contrast to articles in the past, include some of the causes and responsibilities of pension problems. As we know by now, it has not been a good year for pension funds. Many are in the process of reducing their expected rate of return, but that is a two edged sword. True, lower return expectations can reduce pressure on investments, but it also increases the annual required contribution of sponsors.
